Fail Forward

Sports Metaphor:

Michael Jordan’s perspective regarding failure is inspirational.  He once said, "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career, I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty six times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over in my life. And that's why I succeed!"  Jordan is the epitome of persistence and adaptability; carrying on with confidence and making the necessary adjustments to his game.

Business Example:

Failing when attempting to close a sale is feedback, possibly suggesting that your prospect does not have enough information to make a decision.  Failing to make the close is not a final answer.  You continue by asking probing questions and adapt to what your prospect is telling you by providing him with the reasons why your product will suit his needs.
